Over the course of Texaco/Havoline’s involvement in NASCAR Winston Cup and NASCAR Nextel Cup racing, there have been instances when other drivers who have been called to drive the Texaco/Havoline car.
Robby Gordon and Lake Speed drove the Texaco/Havoline car in 1993 while Yates found a replacement for Allison following his tragic helicopter crash.
In 1994 Ernie Irvin, who had replaced Davy Allison, was involved in a crash during a practice session at the Michigan International Speedway. The final 10 races of the season were completed by Kenny Wallace.

- After the death of Allison, Robby Gordon competed in one race driving the No. 28 Texaco/Havoline Ford at Talladega Superspeedway
- Lake Speed competed in three races during the 1993 season at Watkins Glen, Michigan, and Bristol
- Speed captured the outside pole position and a top-10 finish at the Michigan International Speedway

- Wallace competed in the final 10 races of the 1994 season
- Captured the outside pole position for the season finale at Atlanta Motor Speedway and recorded two top-10 finishes
