Juan Pablo Montoya and No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Team - Mexico City Race Advance
- Road Course Master: This weekend will mark Montoya’s first stock car road course competition, but the Colombia native is no stranger to road course racing with Ganassi, as he tallied five road course victories for the team owner during his 1999 rookie CART Series season en route to his 1999 CART championship title. Following Montoya’s run in CART, he went on to capture seven Grand Prix victories throughout his six-year career in Formula One. The Pruett-Montoya duo also most recently teamed up this past January, along with Salvador Duran, to lead 468 of 668 laps at Daytona International Speedway in the No.01 TELMEX/Target Riley to win CGRFS’ second straight Rolex 24 At Daytona. The victory marked Montoya’s first run and win of the competition.
- Tested and Approved: Montoya, along with his crew chief Brad Parrot and the No. 42 Busch team, tested at VIR last month, but Sunday’s race will mark the 31-year-old racer’s career-first NASCAR road course start.
- COT Testing in Tennessee: Montoya, along with CGRFS teammates Sorenson and Stremme, tested at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway this Wednesday and Thursday during the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Car of Tomorrow (COT) test session. The test was the last pre-race preparations the NEXTEL Cup teams got to take advantage of until they return to the Tennessee short track to race the new COT set-up in late March. The test session was also Montoya’s first time ever driving and visiting the notorious high banks of Bristol Motor Speedway.
- Telcel on Board: In addition to Texaco/Havoline colors riding alongside Montoya this weekend in Mexico, race sponsor Telcel will adorn the rear-half of the No. 42 Busch car. Telcel is a subsidiary of TELMEX, a long-time partner of Ganassi’s sports car team. TELMEX was also aboard with Montoya, Pruett and Duran, when the trio scored Ganassi’s second-consecutive Rolex 24 At Daytona victory this past January.
- Road Trip: Texaco/Havoline has just made traveling to the race track easier for race fans. Fans can go to www.texacohavoline42.com, click on the link for the road trip and enter their starting location and race destination. In addition to receiving the best route to the track, fans will also get directions to the nearest Express Lube and Texaco filling stations along the way to make planning their trip to see Montoya easier.
- Chassis: The No. 42 Texaco/Havoline and Telcel colors will be carried by new chassis #559 this weekend in Mexico City. The car was tested last month at VIR and last June at Infineon Raceway, but Sunday’s Telcel-Motorola Mexico 200 will be its first official race.
