Michigan International Speedway Advance
Race: 3M Performance 400
Track: Michigan International Speedway (2-mile oval)
Location: Brooklyn, Mich.
Juan Pablo Montoya and the No. 42 Texaco Havoline Team Facts:
- Standings: Juan Pablo Montoya and the No. 42 team dropped one spot to 19th in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup standings following their 39th-place run at Watkins Glen International. Montoya sits 139 points out of 15th and has accumulated one win, three top-five and four top-10 finishes this season.
- Back to Michigan: Montoya returns to MIS after his first stock car race at the 2-mile track in June. Montoya and his Texaco/Havoline team finished 43rd in the Cup event after a blown tire sent him into the outside wall. He has also turned laps at MIS in open wheel when he drove to victory lane in July of 2000 for Chip Ganassi Racing in the CART Series. Montoya started the race from the seventh position and led 39 laps before taking the checkered flag. He also competed in the CART race in 1999 where he started third, led for 28 laps and finished on the podium in second place.
- Rookie Race: Despite a 39th-place finish at Watkins Glen International last weekend, Montoya still leads the Raybestos® Rookie standings over David Ragan by a 25-point advantage (212-187). Montoya’s 19th-place standing in the NEXTEL Cup points race is the best of any rookie following the 23rd race of the season. Since 1975, Davey Allison, driving a Texaco/Havoline car, is the only Raybestos® Rookie to win the pole position for the August race at Michigan. Allison captured the top starting spot for the 1987 race.
- Heading to Primetime: Montoya and his wife Connie Montoya will be featured in the upcoming series on ABC called NASCAR in Primetime. The ABC News crew spent weeks with Montoya at the track and obtained minute-by-minute footage of his victory in Sonoma. The program took a glimpse into the lives of several drivers including Montoya and his Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates teammate David Stremme. The show captured his life away from the track, on the golf course and at home in Miami with his wife and children. The six-week, six-episode program premieres Wednesday, August 15 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
- Chassis: Crew Chief Donnie Wingo and the No. 42 team are bringing chassis #706 to MIS for the 3M Performance 400. The team has utilized this chassis four times this season earning two of its three top-10 finishes of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup season. Chassis #706 has run at Texas (eighth-place finish), Atlanta (fifth-place finish), Pocono (20th-place finish) and Chicagoland (15th-place finish).
- Stars and Cars: Chevron Global Marketing launched Texaco’s Car of the Decades contest celebrating cars and the people who love them with a virtual auto show that lets visitors decide the best cars from every decade in the 20th century through today. During the Texaco Car of the Decades submission process, which concludes September 3, auto enthusiasts can register online at www.texacocarofthedecades.com to enter their favorite car for a chance to win a grand prize package featuring VIP treatment at the launch of the 2008 season at Daytona, including a tour of the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline hauler, the pit and a chance to meet Montoya.
- Celebrating 20 Years: In celebration of Texaco’s 20th anniversary in sponsoring stock car racing and a successful season for rookie Montoya, Chevron Products Company introduced its special limited edition gift card carrying the image of the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline race car and Montoya. The Texaco/Havoline branded gift cards are now available for purchase in denominations up to $100 at participating Texaco stations or online at www.texaco.com.
- Sirius-ly: Montoya and the team will be featured weekly on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Driver2Crew Chatter. Driver2Crew Chatter puts fans in the car and in the pits. Fans can listen to Montoya’s radio communication with Crew Chief Wingo, Spotter Tab Boyd and the rest of the Team on channel 119. Listen in every Monday at 5 p.m. ET on channel 128 for the “Juan Pablo Montoya Report.” Montoya provides exclusive updates on the No. 42 Team; gives post-race downloads and shares his own personal experiences on his jump full time into the NEXTEL Cup Series.
