Texaco/Havoline No. 42 Racing Star in the Sky Blog

Bristol Motor Speedway Advance

Race: Sharpie 500
Track: Bristol Motor Speedway (.533-mile oval)
Location: Bristol, Tenn.

Juan Pablo Montoya and the No. 42 Texaco Havoline Team Facts:

  • Standings: Juan Pablo Montoya and the No. 42 team remain 19th in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup standings following their 26th-place finish at Michigan International Speedway. Montoya is just one point out of 18th, and 165 points behind 15th-place driver Greg Biffle.

  • Battle at Bristol: The Texaco/Havoline Team and Montoya return to Bristol where they finished the Food City 500 at BMS in the 32nd position in what was the first Car of Tomorrow (CoT) race of the year. Montoya spun on lap 137 after contact was made with the No. 96 car, fell three laps down trying to re-fire the car and had an issue with the wheel hub late in the race to finish the event.

  • Rookie Race: Montoya still holds a considerable lead in the Raybestos® Rookie standings over David Ragan after the 23rd event of the 2007 season. Despite his 26th-place finish in Michigan, Montoya has a 23-point advantage (213-190) over the driver of the No. 6 car. Montoya is poised to become the fourth driver for Texaco/Havoline to earn the Raybestos Rookie honor (Davey Allison, Kenny Irwin and Jamie McMurray).

  • Back in Primetime: Montoya and his wife Connie Montoya will again be featured in the ABC special NASCAR in Primetime. The program this week focuses on Montoya’s first trip to Bristol Motor Speedway in March at the track that looks more like an arena than a race track. The program looks into the lives of several drivers including Montoya, his Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates teammate David Stremme, veteran Mark Martin and Johnny Sauter. The five-week, five-episode program continues Wednesday, August 22 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.

  • Chassis: Crew Chief Donnie Wingo and the No. 42 team are bringing chassis #731 to the bullring this weekend. The team previously ran this chassis at Darlington (23rd-place finish), Richmond (26th-place finish) Bristol (32nd-place finish), Dover (31st-place finish) and Loudon (19th-place finish). In five short-track events, the chassis’ best finish was a top-20 effort at Loudon.

  • Tennessee Tony: Tony Glover—a Kingsport, Tenn., native—is the team manager at the CGRFS Concord, N.C. race shop. He has been racing for 34 years and throughout his career Glover has built the reputation as one of the top mechanical minds in motorsports. In addition, Glover has a knack for developing drivers and winning big races. Under his guidance, Ernie Irvan, Sterling Marlin and Joe Nemechek captured their first NASCAR Cup wins.

  • Stars and Cars: Chevron Global Marketing launched Texaco’s Car of the Decades contest celebrating cars and the people who love them with a virtual auto show that lets visitors decide the best cars from every decade in the 20th century through today. During the Texaco Car of the Decades submission process, which concludes September 3, auto enthusiasts can register online at www.texacocarofthedecades.com to enter their favorite car for a chance to win a grand prize package featuring VIP treatment at the launch of the 2008 season at Daytona, including a tour of the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline hauler, the pit and a chance to meet Montoya.

  • Celebrating 20 Years: In celebration of Texaco’s 20th anniversary in sponsoring stock car racing and a successful season for rookie Montoya, Chevron Products Company introduced its special limited edition gift card carrying the image of the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline race car and Montoya. The Texaco/Havoline branded gift cards are now available for purchase in denominations up to $100 at participating Texaco stations or online at www.texaco.com.

  • Sirius-ly: Montoya and the team will be featured weekly on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Driver2Crew Chatter. Driver2Crew Chatter puts fans in the car and in the pits. Fans can listen to Montoya’s radio communication with Crew Chief Wingo, Spotter Tab Boyd and the rest of the Team on channel 119. Listen in every Monday at 5 p.m. ET on channel 128 for the “Juan Pablo Montoya Report.” Montoya provides exclusive updates on the No. 42 Team; gives post-race downloads and shares his own personal experiences on his jump full time into the NEXTEL Cup Series.
