Race Advance - Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Race: Brickyard 400 on Sunday, July 27 (Live on ESPN, 1p.m. ET)
Track: Indianapolis Motor Speedway (2.5-mile oval)
Location: Indianapolis, Ind.
Juan Pablo Montoya and the No. 42 Dodge Charger (NSCS)
- Indy History: Montoya made history last year by becoming the first driver to compete in all three major events at IMS: the Indianapolis 500, the United States Grand Prix and the Brickyard 400. Montoya has six starts in the Grand Prix with a top finish of fourth, one start and win in the Indy 500 and last year’s second-place effort in the Brickyard 400.
- Indy in ’07: Montoya, making his first trip around IMS in a stock car, drove the No. 42 Dodge to a runner-up finish in the 2007 Brickyard 400. Montoya started on the outside pole, which marked his career best Sprint Cup start at the time, next to teammate Reed Sorenson who earned his first career pole. Montoya ran in the top 10 for the entire 160-lap event before bringing home the second-place finish.
- Bowling for Dollars: Montoya will participate in the 7th Annual Jeff Gordon Foundation Bowling Tournament benefiting Riley Hospital for Children this Thursday. The event begins at 4 p.m. at the Western Bowl approximately three miles from IMS. Montoya’s teammate Sorenson will also be bowling at the event.
- 2008 Standings: Montoya now sits 20th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup driver standings heading to IMS. He moved up one position after his 18th-place run at Chicagoland Speedway two weeks ago.
- He’s “SIRIUS” Again: For the second year in a row, listen to SIRIUS Satellite Radio every Tuesday on channel 128 for the "Juan Pablo Montoya Report." Montoya will provide exclusive updates on the No. 42 Team; give post-race downloads and share his thoughts on the events of the season. He will also chat with hosts David Poole and Mike Bagley on "The Morning Drive" every Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. ET.
- No. 42 Dodge Charger (NSCS): Chassis #745. This will be Montoya’s first time using chassis #745. However, it is not the first time it has been raced this season. Sorenson drove it at Bristol earlier this season.
Montoya Quotes on Indy
"When I raced in the Brickyard 400 last year, it had been almost 10 years since I ran there on the oval. I honestly didn’t remember that much about the track itself. So, I don’t think I had a racing advantage from any other rookie at the track. You have to remember, even in Formula One we ran the course backwards so that completely erases anything I may have learned from the Indy 500."
"If an open-wheel driver has any advantage over another rookie that hasn’t raced there before it’s a mental advantage. The Indy 500 and the track hold so much prestige, that as a rookie that’s never been there you could easily get overwhelmed by it like running your first Daytona 500. But having run the Indy 500 before, you already know what to expect and mentally you can handle the importance of racing across the bricks."
