Dover - The Second Time Around

Just like the last few weeks have been, we practiced good and qualified terrible but wow what a fun race it was!  The 400 laps at Dover is a very long and physical race.  Although the weather was cool most of the weekend, on race day it was pretty warm in the mid 80s. We started 35th way back in the field.  That always terrifies me because things happen so fast at Dover.  The track is very fast and narrow.  If something happens in the middle of the pack it is pure luck most of the time if you make it through an accident!  Early in the race Juan passed quite a few cars like he normally does.  He really drove hard and ran good most of the day.  He was really good in the high groove.  This race seemed to be all about momentum.  Even if you were really fast and had to go low to pass a lapped car, it killed the momentum and people you were ahead of by a long way would be on your back bumper in a second!

Loudon and Traffic!

We are sitting in terrible traffic leaving the race track in Loudon so I decided to go ahead and write this week’s blog.  Loudon is the very worst track on the circuit for post-race traffic.  Enough with that…let’s get to the race weekend.  Practice was once again pretty good and we were looking forward to qualifying.  But for the second week in a row qualifying was rained out.  Bad weather has been following us around the last couple of weeks and we would have to start by points again.

Rainy Richmond, and the Answers to Your Questions

When practice started in Richmond the car was very fast right off the truck. We were the fastest car nearly the entire practice.  Toward the end of the session everyone started doing mock qualifying runs and when we did our run Juan was third fastest on the time sheet.  We were really looking forward to qualifying so we could get a good starting position for the Saturday night event.  Shortly after practice there was talk of bad weather coming in.  A hurricane making landfall in the south was pushing lots of terrible storms our way in Virginia.  Once it started raining with more on the way, NASCAR cancelled qualifying and postponed the race until Sunday afternoon so good weather would be guaranteed.  We were disappointed but the situation was understandable.

Sorry for the delay this week…I don’t know where the time goes sometimes!  We are in the plane on the way to Richmond right now.  The night in California was up and down.  We qualified mid-pack but made really good progress during the first few runs of the race.  Juan made it into the top 10 for quite a while, even during a round of green-flag stops.  We passed Kyle Busch and drove away from him early on.  I thought we were in really good shape at that point.
