The one thing about racing that stresses me out the most is getting into accidents. I know crashing is part of it, but I work really hard to keep Juan and our car out of trouble. As many of you know we did have a crash today and it made me really angry. I don’t know what I or Juan could have done differently. It is all spur of the moment decisions. Last week in
The last couple of weeks have been stressful like I have never seen in my life before at the shop and around the track. It is not always pretty in this sport and everyone is feeling it right now. It is very tense and the mood is not very good like it was at the beginning of the year. I am not being negative! I am usually the positive one but you guys want to know what is happening so there it is. I don’t know how we can work any harder to get prepared. Everyone at the shop and the track has been working crazy hours with little time off. Sometimes it is hard to remember what day it is. Hopefully it will get better soon.
Enough of that, I will let you know more about what happened at Pocono. Practice started off terrible. Juan kept saying that something was wrong with the car and after the final practice before qualifying we did find something wrong. As we went through NASCAR’s height requirement gauges they made us adjust something that threw some of our measurements off. Even though it took some time to find this, when it was corrected, Juan qualified 21st, the best in quite a few weeks. Happy with the qualifying, we prepared for final practice. The practices went OK, but Juan did manage to brush the wall in final practice. I did not think it was too bad, but when I made it to the garage area afterwards I could not believe the body damage that it had done. We had to take all of the decals off of the right side of the car, remove and straighten all of the crush panels, seal up all of the replaced panels, and re-decal the car. It was a huge ordeal! We got the car back in good condition, finished the pre-race checklists and were ready to race.
When the race started I was happy with the progress. Juan passed some cars and was doing really well. Many people got on different pit strategies, and even though we did not have great track position at all times, we were still running pretty good. Juan got really hot in the car. We are going to look into more cooling and putting more heat shields on the oil lines and things around the diver compartment. I think the style of cars we are racing today are generally very hot inside. The summer races will be tough on the drivers.
Once the wreck happened, I thought we were done, but the guys did a tremendous job getting a new front end, radiator, oil cooler, numerous burnt up oil lines and brakes lines replaced and got the car back on the track! The goal was to finish the race and gain as many positions as we could though attrition. The car ran rather well considering the impact and repair that was done. I have no idea where we finished; I was frustrated with the day but also satisfied that once again we never gave up.
Now it is off to

I can understand the frustration and mood at the shop with the crew chief musical chairs and just pure bad luck with the wrecks – not of Juan making. I’m sure with the rumor mill running wild in the press is not helping much either. A word of encouragement, with all the hard work and commitment to the 42 team effort, things will turn around for you guys. Keep the faith, Juan is a winning driver, the spark will light with the 42 team and ya’ll will be on top of the heap.
An old school tip for keeping cool during races, place a frozen ice pack that has been put in a terry cloth pouch inside the fire suit on the stomach just below the breast plate – it works. Keep cool and keeping digging – you and Juan have very loyal fans out here.
How the R&D department is going? Seems to be backwards. How many tens are you slower? What about areo? What about a computer program simulation in practice and video camaras in each wheel to analyze their behavior and other details? I know that JPM is a great driver. It is very frustrating to me to see Juan week after week running just to survive...! Guys you need to find some ingenuity.
Is pure bad luck I was hoping for a turn around, but if nothing happens from here on I don't want to be negative but I think we won't make the chase for the simple fact that everybody around our point status is finding a sweet spot we haven't hit yet...
Keep up the positive attitude, I know it can be hard but you have to for the rest of the team. Yes, Sunday must of been frustrating for you all. We could hear it in your voices. You are the reason we are enjoying NASCAR so much. You and Juan seem to have a good relationship. I think he trusts you more then anyone. You make a great team. We really like it when you guys laugh don't hear the other teams doing that. Best of luck next week, and we will see you in Sonoma!

It seems like the team is getting close. Just that one more inch! No doubt in my mind he will be winning championships soon! As far as the last race, it happens to everyone. Keep pushing!
Really frustrating last few weeks for you guys. However, it seems the team is getting closer and closer to running up front. It will happen soon, I am positive. Can't wait to see you guys cross the checkers first this season. Good luck in Michigan and then onto my home track (Sonoma). Keep digging!

Keeping the faith for a better finish!!
I have to choose between :
1. Tower 2, Lund or Allison.
2. Terrace, Tower or Box.
3. Mother in law recommends to buy tickets the day of race unstead of now.
Thanks and every comment will be appreciate.
I've followed Juan since he tore up CART back in 1999; my goodness, has it been THAT long?! Anyway, he was always fun to watch, especially when contending for a win. I know you all are working hard to get better, and I hope that you all do so soon.
Unfortunately, NASCAR is so COMPETITIVE! While you're getting better, so are your competitors; they aren't resting on their laurels. Look at Roush-Fenway Racing. Last year, they didn't do so well; this year, they're giving Gibbs & HMS fits, and they appear to be getting stronger still-ouch!
Even the good teams can stumble, and they do. Look at Hendrick Motor Sports this year. Although many teams would like to have the year that HMS is having, they are NOT stomping everyone like they were last year; they are not invincible, as Gibbs has shown. Richard Childress Racing had fallen from glory for a few years until its revival last year. What about Robert Yates Racing? This once proud, championship winning organization hasn't run well, either; they too have won championships in the recent past. Just goes to show you that all teams have their ups and downs.
You're up against a LOT of good teams in NASCAR. Unlike IndyCar or F1, where two or three teams have a realistic chance of winning, you have many teams capable of winning in NASCAR. While you have three solid teams in NASCAR that are a threat to win every week (HMS, Gibbs, and Roush), there are other teams who can spoil the party, such as GEM. This is especially true as of late, given the great finishes the #9 has had this year. GEM is coming on strong, and if they keep it up, could end up dethroning one of the big three teams if they don't watch out.
Penske is capable of winning, though not consistently; they won @ Daytona, but haven't won since. However, former Indy 500 winner and indyCar champ, Sam Hornish, is showing us that he has the goods; he mixed it up with the #48 yesterday, and was competing for a win until having to make a pit stop for gas @ the end.
Though unsponsored, Robert Yates Racing has had some good runs lately; if they ever get funding again, they'll be in the mix once again. Once their cars are sponsored, they could definitely be a threat to win if the stars all come together on a given day.
And what about Red Bull Racing? They were joke last year, but no one's laughing at them now. Brian Vickers in the #83 car is consistently fighting for wins now; A.J. Allmendinger is bringing the #84 car closer to the front. RBR, though not in the same league as Gibbs, HMS, or RFR, is in GEM's league; though not a threat to win consistenly yet, they will be before long. Once they hit their stride, the big boys better be watchin' their mirrors, lest they get passed by.
You have the big three of HMS, Gibbs, and RFR who are always a threat to win; they are the big three in NASCAR at the moment. However, GEM & RBR have shown flashes of brilliance. They are regularly running in the Top 5; before long, they'll both be competing for wins. Both teams have the potential to dethrone one of the big three teams soon-a far cry from how either did last year. CGRFS is up against it; NASCAR is just so competitive, that it's hard to make progress. However, Chip Ganassi has ALWAYS had success in racing; he'll find a way to get you guys up to the top. Hhe's not used to being in 20th, and he won't rest until CGRFS is at the top-where he's ACCUSTOMED to being. Thanks, and good luck, Tab!
