Texaco/Havoline No. 42 Racing Star in the Sky Blog

Casey Mears and No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge Samsung/Radio Shack 500 - Texas Motor Speedway Advance

Texaco/Havoline Team Facts:

NEXTEL Cup Series

  • Standings:  Casey Mears and the Texaco/Havoline team remain in the NASCAR Top 10 despite disappointing finishes over the last three weeks.  Mears sits 10th in the championship standings, 209 points behind the leader heading to Texas.  Mears was 23rd in the standings heading to the Samsung/Radio Shack 500 last season.

  • Texas Motor Speedway:  Texas Motor Speedway has been one of the most successful tracks for Mears on the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup circuit.  He has competed in four Cup races at the track and finished in the top 10 in three of them.  He earned fourth-place finishes in both NEXTEL Cup events last year and led for a total of 38 laps. He has a 10.5 average finish and his best qualifying effort was sixth.

  • Chassis:  Crew chief Donnie Wingo and the Texaco/Havoline team will take chassis #401 to the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway.  Mears drove this chassis at California and Las Vegas already this season where he finished seventh and ninth respectively.

Busch Series

  • Busch Racing:  Mears will return to the NASCAR Busch Series this weekend in the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge.  Veteran crew chief Brad Parrott will make his debut for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates calling the shots for Mears on Saturday.

  • Chassis:  Mears will race the same chassis, #652, which he competed with in the Busch Series races at California and Atlanta earlier this season.  He finished 40th and 16th respectively in those two events.

Casey Mears Quotes:
“I’m really looking forward to going to Texas,” said Mears.  “Texas has been good to me, and it should be another good race for me and the Texaco/Havoline team.   You always like the tracks where you’ve seen success.

“The groove is getting wider at Texas which makes for better racing.  The groove is definitely wider in Turns 3 and 4, while Turns 1 and 2 are still a little narrow and you want to stay at the bottom.  Our downforce package is better and the new NASCAR rules are forcing the drivers to search around the track more to find grip.  That is the kind of racing the drivers and fans enjoy.

“We got off to such a good start this year, and Bristol and Martinsville were tough to swallow.  I thought we had competitive cars at both of those tracks and just had some trouble with other people at Bristol and a broken rear-end gear at Martinsville.  But we finished both races and we are still in the top 10, so now we can focus on the upcoming tracks.
