Texaco/Havoline No. 42 Racing Star in the Sky Blog

Lenox Industrial Tools 300 - New Hampshire International Speedway Advance

Texaco/Havoline Team Facts:

NEXTEL Cup Series

  • Happy Birthday, Brad:  The No. 42 Texaco/Havoline NASCAR Busch Series win last weekend at Chicagoland Speedway was special in many ways.  One obvious reason was the fact it marked Mears’ first career win in NASCAR, but it also turned out to be an early birthday gift for his Busch Series crew chief Brad Parrott.  The veteran crew chief turns 39 on Thursday, July 13.  During Parrott’s birthday celebration, he will be toasting his 17th NASCAR victory.

  • Two Close to Home:  Two members of the Texaco/Havoline team will be very close to their hometowns while racing at New Hampshire International Speedway this weekend.  The No. 42 Texaco/Havoline car chief Mike Brill is a Woodsville, N.H., native and Norwalk, Conn., is the hometown of Mike Bodick who serves as the team’s gas man.

  • Standings:  Following their 25th-place finish at Chicagoland on Sunday, Mears and the Texaco/Havoline team remain 15th in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series standings.  Mears is 228 points out of 10th with eight races remaining before the “Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup.”

  • Looking Ahead to Loudon:  Mears is looking for his first top-10 finish at New Hampshire International Speedway.  In six starts at the 1-mile track, his best finish is 16th.  Mears and the Texaco/Havoline Team tested at The Milwaukee Mile in Milwaukee, Wis., last month to prepare for the 300-mile race this Sunday.

  • Indy Preparations:  On Monday, Mears and the Texaco/Havoline team had a productive run at Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the fifth NEXTEL Cup open test session of the 2006 season.  All three Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) teams visited the Indiana track to prepare for the upcoming Brickyard 400 on August 6.  The No. 42 Dodge was eighth fastest in both the morning and afternoon sessions on Monday, with Mears’ best lap of the day clocking in at 51.05 sec./176.3 mph.  Rain canceled all on-track activity on Tuesday so the Texaco/Havoline team will be testing again on Wednesday.

  • Chassis:  Crew chief Donnie Wingo and the Texaco/Havoline team are bringing chassis #616 to race at New Hampshire International Speedway this weekend.  This is a new short-track car in the No. 42 stable.

  • Help us Celebrate:  The 2007 season will mark Texaco/Havoline’s 20th year as a sponsor in NASCAR.  From Davey Allison to Mears, Texaco/Havoline has a rich history in the sport.  To commemorate its history, Texaco/Havoline is printing a one-of-a-kind book filled with photos and stories submitted by fans, drivers, crew members and media.  Fans can submit their favorite story, interesting tale or special moment in their life involving the Texaco/Havoline race team at www.texacohavoline42.com or by calling 800-518-0028 through the end of July.

Casey Mears Quotes:
On New Hampshire International Speedway …
“Coming off of the Busch win at Chicagoland, I am really looking forward to racing this week in New Hampshire.  There also has been a lot of preparation leading up to this weekend’s short-track event.  All of the guys back at the shop have been working really hard on our short-track cars and it showed at the Milwaukee test just a few weeks ago.  We had a good run there and we’re all anxious to see how it plays out.  I know David [Stremme], Reed [Sorenson] and I are very grateful to everyone who’s had a hand in getting the cars together.  All of that coupled with the momentum we’re riding on right now should result in another good run for all of us.”
