Texaco/Havoline No. 42 Racing Star in the Sky Blog

Dover International Speedway Advance

Race: Dodge Dealers 400
Track: Dover International Speedway (1-mile oval)
Location: Dover, Del.

Juan Pablo Montoya and the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge Avenger Team Facts:

  • Taming the Monster: Juan Pablo Montoya and the Texaco/Havoline team had to overcome several issues in June at Dover International Speedway. After qualifying 16th in his first trip to the “Monster Mile”, Montoya battled a tight-handling Dodge Avenger and a late-race electrical problem to finish the event in the 31st position.

  • ¡Feliz cumpleaños!: Happy Birthday JPM! Montoya, driver of the No. 42 Dodge Avenger, will celebrate his 32nd birthday on Thursday, September 20.

In addition to Montoya’s birthday, spotter Tab Boyd celebrated his 30th birthday on Tuesday, September 18. Fans can read an exclusive blog by Boyd every week at http://www.texacohavoline42.com/news/blog. Boyd recounts the race from his perspective high atop the track.

  • Standings: Montoya remains 20th in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup driver standings after finishing 23rd last weekend at New Hampshire International Speedway. He sits 67 points behind the 19th-place driver in the standings with nine races remaining. The No. 42 team has finished in the top 20 in points since its inception at Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) in 2003.

  • International Appeal: Chip Ganassi Racing Teams, Inc. drivers represent six countries across five series: United States-Reed Sorenson-NNCS, Bryan Clauson-NBS, Scott Pruett-Grand Am, Rob Finlay-Grand Am, Chris Festa-Indy Pro Series; Colombia-Montoya-NNCS; New Zealand-Scott Dixon-IndyCar; England-Dan Wheldon-IndyCar; Canada-Michael Valiante-Grand Am; and Mexico-Memo Rojas-Grand Am. The team’s world-wide appeal is apparent by the fans from 157 countries that have visited the CGRFS website in just the last 12 months. The top 10 countries to the site include the six represented by the CGRFS drivers, as well as Spain, Germany, Uruguay and Japan.

  • Rookie Race: Montoya leads David Ragan by 13 points (219-206) in the Raybestos® Rookie standings entering the Dodge Dealers 400 this weekend. Montoya’s 20th-place standing in NEXTEL Cup points is also the best of any rookie this season. In the fall race last year at Dover two Raybestos Rookies led laps in the 400-lap event, Montoya’s sophomore teammates Reed Sorenson (39 laps) and David Stremme (three laps).

  • Chassis: Crew Chief Donnie Wingo and the Texaco/Havoline team are bringing chassis #731 to Dover International Speedway this weekend. The team previously ran this chassis at Darlington (23rd-place finish), Richmond (26th-place finish) Bristol (32nd-place finish), Dover (31st-place finish) Loudon (19th-place finish) and most recently at the Bristol night race one month ago. In six short-track events, the chassis has finished in the top 20 twice, Loudon and Bristol.

  • Celebrating 20 Years: In celebration of Texaco’s 20th anniversary in sponsoring stock car racing and a successful season for rookie Montoya, Chevron Products Company introduced its special limited edition gift card carrying the image of the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline race car and Montoya. The Texaco/Havoline branded gift cards are now available for purchase in denominations up to $100 at participating Texaco stations or online at www.texaco.com.

  • Sirius-ly: Montoya and the team will be featured weekly on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Driver2Crew Chatter. Driver2Crew Chatter puts fans in the car and in the pits. Fans can listen to Montoya’s radio communication with Crew Chief Wingo, Spotter Tab Boyd and the rest of the Team on channel 119. Listen in every Monday at 5 p.m. ET on channel 128 for the “Juan Pablo Montoya Report.” Montoya provides exclusive updates on the No. 42 Team; gives post-race downloads and shares his own personal experiences on his jump full time into the NEXTEL Cup Series.
