Texaco/Havoline No. 42 Racing Star in the Sky Blog

Casey Mears and No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge - Dodge/Save Mart 350 - Infineon Raceway Advance

Texaco/Havoline Team Facts:

NEXTEL Cup Series

  • Standings:  Casey Mears and the Texaco/Havoline team earned their fourth top-10 finish of the season last weekend at Michigan International Speedway.  Their seventh-place effort moved them up one spot in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup standings to 14th, just 153 points out of 10th.

  • Cali Natives:  Mears and Texaco/Havoline crew member Scott Myers hail from the state of California.  Mears grew up in Bakersfield until moving to North Carolina to pursue a career in NASCAR.  Myers, a mechanic for the No. 42 Dodge, is from Modesto about 100 miles southeast of Sonoma.

  • Sonoma stats:  Mears will be making his fourth NEXTEL Cup start at Infineon Raceway this weekend in the Dodge/Save Mart 350.  His best finish at the California road course is seventh, and he has completed every lap in his three starts.

  • Chassis:  Crew chief Donnie Wingo and the Texaco/Havoline team are brining road course chassis #310 to Sonoma this weekend.  The Texaco/Havoline team has utilized this chassis over the past two years at Infineon Raceway where it finished 13th in 2005 and second in 2004.

  • Help us Celebrate:  The 2007 season will mark Texaco/Havoline’s 20th year as a sponsor in NASCAR.  From Davey Allison to Mears, Texaco/Havoline has a rich history in the sport.  To commemorate its history, Texaco/Havoline is printing a one-of-a-kind book filled with photos and stories submitted by fans, drivers, crew members and media.  Fans can submit their favorite story, interesting tale or special moment in their life involving the Texaco/Havoline race team at www.texacohavoline42.com or by calling 800-518-0028 through the end of July.

Casey Mears Quotes:
On Sonoma…
“I really enjoy the road courses, that’s what I grew racing around before coming to NASCAR.  When I was headed in the open-wheel direction, most of the races were on street and road courses like Infineon.  It should be a good opportunity for me to make up some ground in the points.  Last weekend we had a solid run at Michigan, hopefully we can do the same at Infineon.

“Scott (Pruett) tested VIR (Virginia International Raceway) with me and he was a big help.  He’s running with us this weekend and really makes an effort to help everyone get better at these tracks.  The dynamic of road course racing has changed a lot since the NEXTEL Cup Series started racing at these types of tracks.  Guys who weren’t typical road course racers have competed at Infineon and Watkins Glen enough that they have started to even out the playing field.  Drivers like Scott may still have a slight advantage, but it’s not as much as it used to be.”
