Race Advance - Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway
Race: Pennsylvania 500 on Sunday, August 3 (Live on ESPN, 1p.m. ET
Track: Pocono Raceway (2.5-mile tri-oval)
Location: Pocono, Pa.
Juan Pablo Montoya and the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge (NSCS)
- Back in Black: Juan Pablo Montoya will be back driving the black and red Texaco/Havoline Dodge this weekend at Pocono Raceway. The No. 42 Dodge last sported the paint scheme at New Hampshire Motor Speedway just over a month ago.
- About last week: Montoya and the No. 42 Dodge were victims of tire issues at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last Sunday in the Brickyard 400. Montoya’s hope of repeating his 2007 runner-up performance vanished when the right-rear tire exploded on lap 28. The team was able to repair the car and get it back on the track. He finished the event in the 39th position.
- Pocono History: This weekend Montoya will be making his third start at Pocono Raceway and hopes to earn his first top-10 finish at the 2.5-mile track. His best start and finish came at the second Pocono event last season. He qualified ninth and finished in the 16th position.
- Testing: The No. 42 team led by Crew Chief Brian Pattie and Montoya are testing at Road Atlanta Tuesday in preparation for the final road course race of the season at Watkins Glen. Montoya will be driving a 2008 chassis that was also tested earlier this year at Virginia International Raceway, but has yet to be raced in competition.
- Hailing from Penn: Two members of the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge team hail from the state of Pennsylvania - Engineer Billy Curwood and Shock Specialist Jerry Wittig. Curwood grew up in Shickshinny, about 50 miles northwest of Pocono Raceway and has been a member of the No. 42 crew since its inception. Wittig is the newest member on the crew from Reading which is about 85 miles south of the 2.5-mile track. He got his start in racing at Penske Racing Shocks.
- 2008 Standings: After finishing 39th in last weekend’s event at IMS, Montoya dropped two places in driver standings—to the 22nd spot.
- He’s "SIRIUS" Again: For the second year in a row, listen to SIRIUS Satellite Radio every Tuesday on channel 128 for the "Juan Pablo Montoya Report." Montoya will provide exclusive updates on the No. 42 Team; give post-race downloads and share his thoughts on the events of the season. He will also chat with hosts David Poole and Mike Bagley on "The Morning Drive" every Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. ET.
- Star in the Sky: Montoya’s spotter Tab Boyd is once again providing fans with his view on the race from atop the spotter’s stand with an in-depth post-race blog. Boyd recaps the race weekend from his point of view on www.texacohavoline42.com.
- No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge: Chassis #802. Pattie and the No. 42 team are brining chassis #802 to Pocono Raceway this weekend. This chassis finished 19th at Las Vegas earlier this season and was tested at Pocono in May during the NASCAR sanctioned two-day test session.
